The first Denver Veterans Day 5K was successfully completed 2009, under the leadership of Captain James Lehner and Major Byron Elliott (pictured right).

There were approximately 220 participants, and the race was deemed a huge success. The 2010 DVD5K was led under cadre supervision by Cadet Garrett Hothan, a third year Cadet and student at the University of Colorado Denver. The race size jumped to over 400 participants in its second year.

The Auraria Future Leader Association exists to support the future officers of the Army ROTC Program at Metro State University. It pays to send Cadets to participate in the Memorial Bataan Death March, Bolder Boulder, and other events in the country.
